Kevin’s story

Twelve-year-old Kevin was having such difficulty seeing that his teacher would often send him home from school. Sometimes, his mother stayed home from work to be with him, putting the whole family in difficulties. She wishes her son could go to school with others.

Suffering from eye problems since he was six years old, Kevin schooling was such a struggle. As his mother confesses, he gradually lost his good scores as his sight diminished and now was the end. “The teacher chased him” desperately says his mother. She thinks his son won’t be able to go back to school.

Kevin’s mother says she sought medical help from different eye clinics without success. “My son will go blind”, she says with tears in her eyes.

Kevin says he suffers from continuous headache, pains and sometimes completely loses his vision especially when there is a blow of wind or light exposure. Apart from studies, Kevin has become more and more isolated as his life changed dramatically. He can no longer help his parents with chores or join in games with his friends.

“His sight will improve and he will be able to continue his studies”

There is hope

Dr Patrick Budengeri is confident that Kevin will recover his vision. He explains that the child suffers from a severe form of eye allergies: “He has a severe form of allergic conjunctivitis which can lead to blindness if not treated”.

Dr Patrick says that the child had been treated with medications such as eye drops and ointments without any real improvement, with very frequent recurrences. He says they have to go further by injecting those drugs into the inner surface of the eyelid and the eye. Thus these drugs will be more powerful and more effective against this disease. He also mentions that those drugs will act for a very long time because they are released gradually. “His eyesight will improve significantly and he will be able to continue his studies”, he says assuredly.
