Providing eye care and low vision services to children enrolled in schools for the blind in Burundi

There are three schools for the blind in Burundi yet, it appeared that few, if any, of the children have been assessed, provided with medical or surgical services, spectacles, or low vision devices.

As a first step, we conducted a clinical visit to all three schools for the blind, assess all of the children, provide any necessary interventions, and create a plan of action for future service delivery for these children.

The assessment and low vision intervention in Burundi has shown a need for implementing a more comprehensive approach to providing services for children at schools for the blind.

We provide refractive services to children with low vision, the knowledge and skills and interest of the teachers at the schools for the blind to improve the visual capacity of children
