Why Vision Center?

The standard method of recruiting eye patients in most parts of Africa is through outreach. In spite of enormous amount of work done through the outreach system research indicates that only 7% of the population needing eye care services is reached through this system. It is suggested that the most effective way of making eye care services more accessible and affordable is through primary eye care centers.

One model of primary care that is being developed and tested currently is Vision Centers. A Vision Center is a primary eye care center providing comprehensive eye care services that can be accessible by all members of the community on permanent basis.
